Another exciting little secret for you.
The Missing Link of the Foothills Parkway is now connected!
This awesome drive above the clouds and tree tops adds 16 miles of new parkway between Walland and Wears Valley.
A project 52 years in the making, it is an engineering marvel, literally a road built on the side of a mountain, and the newest addition includes 10 bridges, which are numbered east to west.
The “Missing Link” provides several pull-offs for motorists. but the National Park wants to remind you that this is a roadway and not a walkway.
“All of the bridges, as spectacular as they are, are designed for vehicles.” They are not at a pedestrian height with the guardrails. So we have to remind visitors that they are to enjoy it from their car and not as a pedestrian experience.”
Tennessee’s U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander has deemed it as “The Prettiest Drive in America”.
If you’re planning a trip to the Smokies, ya gotta put this on your bucket list.
