Popcorn Sutton – Famous Moonshiner

Popcorn Sutton – Famous Moonshiner

Friday, October 19th, 2018

Ever hear about Popcorn Sutton . . . the most famous mountain moonshiner?

Learn a bit about him and about what part the Tennessee Mountains played during the time of prohibition on a 3-4 hour Moonshine and Wine tour.
It’s part sampler, part history lesson, and part sightseeing tour, and a wine and shine tasting that visits 6-8 distilleries and wineries across Eastern Tennessee.
This experience is unlike any other tour you’ve ever been on.

Known locally as White Lightning, you will get a history lesson about the making of “Moon” and some of our most famous local moonshinin’ residents will be discussed.
You’ll get to sample tastings from fine brewmasters with flavors ranging from the hard-hitting traditional corn mash or rye to the amazing and sweet flavors such as apple pie and strawberry shortcake.

Although we can’t visit every moonshine distillery in a single day, some of the major locations we will visit include Ole Smoky, Smith Creek Moonshine, Sugarlands Moonshine, Tennessee XXX Moonshine, Old Forge Distillery at The Old Mill, Tennessee Legend, and Thunder Road Distilleries.

While some want to try moonshine, others prefer the more relaxed and delicate taste of a quality wine. As most wine aficionados know, the taste can change based on where the grapes are from. Here in the mountains of East Tennessee, we have rich soil and produce some of the sweetest grapes. Our flavors are unique to us and our part of the world. You will get to see inside the wine cellar and taste some of the magnificent quality wines bottled right here in Sevier County Tennessee. We cannot visit every winery in a single trip, but we may visit locations such as Hillside Winery, Sugarlands Cellars, Mill Bridge Winery, Apple Barn Winery, and Mountain Valley Winery.
